If you’ve been shopping for a new mattress in South Africa, chances are you’ve come across three names more than any other: Beyond Sleep, Restonic, and Genessi. All three are well-respected South African brands, all three are available at Bed and Beyond in Randburg, but they’re not the same. Here’s what makes each one different, and how to choose the right one for the way you sleep.

Beyond Sleep: crafted for perfection

Beyond Sleep is our own brand, designed and manufactured to our exact specifications. Every Beyond Sleep mattress is built around one principle: that a great night’s sleep isn’t a luxury. It’s a necessity.

Beyond Sleep beds are available in firm, medium-firm, medium, and plush comfort levels, in standard and extra length, across all sizes from single to king. Because we manufacture the brand ourselves, we can offer exceptional quality at a price that cuts out the middleman.

Best for: Shoppers who want outstanding value without compromising on quality, and anyone who wants to buy direct from the people who made the mattress.

Restonic: consistent quality since 1938

Restonic is one of South Africa’s most established mattress brands, with a history stretching back to 1938. It’s a family-owned business that has built its reputation on consistent quality, innovative spring and foam technology, and beds that last.

Restonic mattresses are known for their precise support, particularly their use of individually wrapped pocket springs, which move independently to contour to your body and reduce motion transfer. This makes them a popular choice for couples.

Best for: Couples with different sleep preferences, back sleepers who need consistent support, and anyone prioritising long-term durability.

Genessi: innovation meets comfort

Genessi is part of the KAP Bedding group, one of South Africa’s largest bedding manufacturers, which means serious investment in materials, technology, and quality control. Genessi beds are known for their premium comfort layers, which often combine high-density foam with advanced spring systems for a balanced, responsive feel.

The Genessi range covers everything from entry-level beds to premium models, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of budgets. Their plush and medium-comfort models are particularly well regarded for pressure relief.

Best for: Side sleepers, anyone looking for a premium feel at a mid-range price, and shoppers who want manufacturing-backed quality assurance.

How to choose: a quick guide

Buy Beyond Sleep if you want the best value for money and the confidence of buying direct from the manufacturer.
Buy Restonic if you share a bed with a partner and want individually responsive support, or if durability is your top priority.
Buy Genessi if you’re a side sleeper or prefer a more cushioned, pressure-relieving feel, and want a well-engineered mid-to-premium option.
